The week of December 6-10

Kindergarten-The children will be watching a holiday video titled "Fay's Twelve Days of Christmas".  Fay is one of William Wegman's dogs.  The video features the artwork of William Wegman while illustrating the traditions of Christmas along with numbers and shapes.

First grade-The children will be viewing a movie titled "Snowden, The Adventures of Raggedy Ann and Andy".  This movie is a review and reinforcement of the artist Johnny Gruelle.  Johnny Gruelle is a Hoosier artist.  He began his career as a cartoonist for the Indianapolis Star.  He was a children's author and illustrator as well as the creator of the dolls Raggedy Ann and Andy.

Second grade-The children are beginning a new lesson from Mexico.  Amate' paper painting is a skill used by the Nahuwa Indian tribe in southern Mexico.  The people made their own paper, Amate' paper, and painted bright images of village life and regional animals.  We will be painting tropical birds on our Amate' paper!

Third grade-The children are up to their elbows in cake icing!  We are learning about the artist Wayne Thiebaud (Tee-bow).  He spent many years working in the food industry which lead to his painting desserts.  His images of cakes, pies, and ice cream absolutely make our mouths water!  The children will be learning about adding shadows to make their work appear 3-dimensional.

Fourth grade-The children have learned a formula for drawing the human face.  Leonardo DiVinci was the first artist to establish consistant measurements for drawing the human form.  The children have also learned about the importance of self-portraits.  We have no idea  what the government leaders looked like hundreds of years ago but we know what the artists looked like!  Thanks to artists painting pictures of themselves, we know exactly what artists looked throughout history.  The children are changing the eyebrows, lips, and adding hair to their "formula portrait" to change it into a self- portrait.  These self-portraits are going to artwork you will keep for years to come!
